When Drilora first arrived on Earth, all the humans saw was an alien. Something to fear. It didn't help that ze attacked another alien right in front of them, even if that other alien was trying to kill the humans. No matter how much Drilora tried to help the humans, they would never see zer as anything else.

Cecilia was a normal human, but everyone underestimates her, which put her as out of the normal as Drilora was. It was practically a superpower, one that she couldn't control. But with the alien living so close, working as a superhero around the city, Cecilia's father felt it was best for the alien to handle such things. Maybe it could teach her how to use that power. Maybe Cecilia could become a superhero, too. At the very least, he could finally be rid of the girl.

Dest has been dreaming about dying in a fire for weeks, and a boy screaming at her, blaming her for everything. Her shrink kept insisting that it was related to her parents' divorce and her own guilt around that. She just wanted to put the dream behind her and focus on starting anew at her new school, with her new cheer squad.

But when her new classmates all revealed that they were having not just similar dreams, but the same dream, they quickly figure out that something more is going on. That a past life was trying to destroy the lives that they had made in the present. The only way to stop it is to explore that past to find out what their true destiny is, the one that was interrupted when they were so young, before that same fire consumed everything they knew.

Hope's dad had been in the army for her entire life, dragging the family all over the country. While most army families can settle in a town for a few years at a time, Hope was more often leaving the town before she could learn its name, let alone make some friends. It made staying in the closet easier for her, avoiding any conflict that would come up if her father ever learned that she was gay.

All that changed when she came to Kulpon Park and met Eddi, the girl who changed her life. If only Eddi wasn't an alien. If only her father wasn't hunting aliens. When Hope chased off Eddi, it had been to save her. But it didn't hurt any less. Stuck with the thought of living in Kulpon Park without Eddi, life felt dull and meaningless to Hope. There was still her old friend, and old crush, Jean. When Jean was the stars, Eddi was the sun, and it made it impossible for Hope to see what was right in front of her.

Things are coming to a head in the magical realm. With the fairy rings starting to die off in greater numbers, the only solution to the problem is the graffiti portals. But when the only person that knows the spell is still avoiding attention, the only way to find them is to put all the bounty hunters on notice.

Cary enters eighth grade, and is finally assigned a house to specialize in. Despite her issues with illusion in the past, she was still expecting to end up in Sight House. However, when she's assigned to Battle, no one is more surprised than her.
